I always read the AJC after I post, so some of my rantings are old news. Oh well.
Who's Not In the 21st Century?
In New Dehli, India, there is a small faction trying to get the government to pass laws to curb aborting a female fetus. Can you believe this still happens?? Seems that in the Hindu religion, a male child will inherit all the material wealth, and a father must be buried by his son, women are reguarded as a burden. So 'families' find out the sex of their unborn child and abort it if it's a female. China already has made finding out the sex of a baby against the law, but very rarely punishes the doctor. Allowing the abortion of a female fetus may very well be a good birth control method. If they don't have any women, how do they reproduce? I'm astounded that this practice still happens. They are a nuclear power, for heaven's sake! They are taking all our jobs from us!
Christmas, Bah Humbug!
I haven't been home for Christmas for a few years, but most of the time I lived in Florida, I didn't go home. When you work in the Service Industry, no matter what position, all vacations are off over the Holidays. I have adopted to being on my own for Christmas, life is what you make it. I've been to some wild Christmas parties, attended church with friends, basically had a great time. Yes, I'm torn about being home, but our Christmas' at home are pretty much a boxing fest. It's always difficult being at home, my dad's goal in life is to annoy any one and everyone, especially my mom. Granted, he's mellowed with age, but it's still like walking on eggshells when I'm around him. He'll pick a fight basically because he's being ignored. My mom puts up with it and has put up with it for almost 60 years. There isn't as much tension between me and my mom as there is between me and my dad, but I'm still not entirely comfortable being at home. It's also sad to see how they've aged. They're both in their early 80's, living in the same house they bought when they were newlyweds. We haven't had small children involved with Christmas since we were kids. My older sister had children, but her husband wouldn't come celebrate Christmas with us as it was a 'family' holdiay. (Still not sure what he meant by that, but whatever...) They would come up as soon as they could after Dec 25th, usually the next day. By the time the next generation arrived, we were pretty much done with kids. There were so many factors involved with my niece and her husband, that we've never been really close. I guess my parents see the kids once in a while, but when you're 80, you don't really want to be around a 3 year old. My mom was never extremely nurturing, anyway.
So Christmas is for kids, and since I'm just a Big Kid, I like to have my own fun, be it at a screaming Uno game or sitting quietly reading. I'm celebrating in my own way.
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
