I'm Baaaaaccckkk!!

It's that time of year, when Christmas and Holiday stuff take precedence. Bah Humbug!

Congratulations
Congratulations go out to my niece Gretchen, who graduated from Old Dominion University this past weekend. We are all so proud of her! She's the youngest of my sisters' kids, and the only one of all of us who could do math... She started at ODU right after graduation from High School, but managed to party her way out of college. (Imagine!) She went back to live with her boyfriend for a few years, and finally decided to join the Coast Guard. She was in for 6-8 years and got out in 2004, and decided to go back to school with a major in mind. She graduated with a double major, biology and psychology. She has grown up into a very loving, caring individual! She met a wonderful man who loves her a lot and has a good marriage. We are all so proud of her.

So This Is Christmas?
The weather has been just glorious, in the upper 60's and 70's. Almost like Christmas in Miami! I've been walking as much as possible, but I'm preparing for a party here on Christmas Eve, so I must clean the house. I love this weather! It will be in the low 60's or even high 50's on Christmas, but that's still do-able, we could be outside with a fire going. I'll even get some chestnuts!

Government Handouts
Everyday, I see immigrants from all over the world come in a do shopping using Food Stamps and WIC checks. I'm still ticked that most of these folks don't speak enough English to understand what I'm telling them, but it's not really their fault. If you were to move to another country and were told that you could get free money, wouldn't you go for it? Come to think of it, even citizens are entitled to free money. I probably could qualify for assistance (if I didn't own a home and had dependent children) but I've never thought to look into it. The price you pay for pride. So don't really be angry at the immigrants, they are just playing the system that we, the citizens built. How to dismantle this? The goal of every organization, be it churches, clubs, or governments is to expand their membership (tax base). So it's to the advantage of the US government, in the long run, to help out the newest citizens. It's to the advantage of the politicians to expand their voter base by being nice to new citizens. It's not to the TaxPayers advantage for the politicians to be nice to the new citizens. So what to do? I really dont' know. We could vote out all the incumbants, but would that really be to our advantage? We could all vote Libertarian and get some new thinkers in office, but they will eventually realize the 'folly' of their ways and become 'politicians' just like the GOP and the Dems. We could refuse to vote and let the scum spend all of our money (sound familiar?) . Any ideas?

Harry Potter and Beer and Wine on Sundays
I think the woman in Gwinette County who cares what all the other children in the world are learning but can't be involved with her own kids should pay all the costs of this frivilous lawsuit and costs of escalating the court involvement. If she doesn't want her kids to read the book, don't let them. So far, she's had the county school board, Gwinette County court systems and the state courts to shoot down her attempt to get the 'Harry Potter' books banned. So she will take it even higher. Methinks she's kicking a dead horse. Go back home and teach your children not to be witches.
There are sounds being made about voting to allow the purchase of beer and wine on Sundays. The liquor industry isn't really behind this because they aren't talking spirits, they are just talking beer and wine. Grocery and convenience stores are backing this issue, but the clergy is against this. As a letter to the editor said yesterday, call it like it is, it's a religious law, and that's not OK. I agree, let's move into at least the 20th Century! If you don't want to buy booze on Sundays, don't! It's that simple. As a minister said, it's about the reverence of the day. But I'll bet he watches football games and quite possibly drinks a beer. That's a great way to worship the Lord.

Ideas to Follow
I'm not telling anyone what to do, it's not my place. But, as I said, if you don't want to buy booze on Sunday, don't. If you don't like porn, don't buy any. If you don't think abortions are right, don't get one. If you don't like the Harry Potter books, don't read them. Just don't stop others from doing it.

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
