So Now What?

Blowing up bridges in DC (so what else is new??!!), hurricane watch in South Florida, and nothing here in HotLanta. I guess that's not so bad.

Wilson Bridge
This morning at midnight, the pushed the plunger and the old span of the Wilson Bridge was imploded. The bridge re-building has been taking place over 10 years. The new 12-lane expanse will reduce traffic congestion, but for how long? This bridge carries part of the major North/South interstate highway passed the DC area, not to mention countless commuters daily. Can you imagine the mess they've had to put up with over the last 10 years?? When they redecked the bridge in the early 80's, they would close at least one lane in each direction starting around 10pm, and work until 3 or 4am. That still resulted in major backups. Thank God thats over, at least for another 40 years!

Hurricane Preparedness
I noticed in the Sun-Sentinel, all the talk is about the hurricane, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach county schools are closed today and tomorrow, there were long lines at the gas pumps yesterday. My how things have changed. When Andrew was expected, I was on the beach all day Saturday, I didn't even hear that it was coming. When I went to the store on Sunday, I got stuck at the grocery store for 4 hours, the lines were that long. Of course, Andrew was the first hurricane to hit South Florida in 25 years, so I guess everyone gets lazy, even the press. It was actually not headline news! I was watching CBS news on Sunday and they interviewed Bryan Norcross, the Director of Meteorology from Miami. He made his career with Hurricane Andrew. He stayed on the air for almost 23 hours before, during and after. I believe they had to force him off the air to go home and get some sleep. (Yes, he still had a home to go to!)

Movie Review
As mentioned yesterday, the Pink Floyd DVD was as bad as anticipated. Poorly edited, poorly narrated (the girl reading the text was annoying), the 'experts' they interviewed weren't identified, so I don't know who they were. One guy looked like he was sitting in a mall watching all the girls go by as he talked about Pink Floyd. He kept looking to either side, not at the camera. They showed some pictures, some video shots, but no music. Even the music under the narrative wasn't Pink Floyd. I only watched about 30 minutes of it. I got tired of looking at some old British guy with bad teeth go on about Pink Floyd, forgetting names of songs. Oh, yes, they did showcase some music, some kid with dred locks and a lip piercing demonstrated the David Gilmour technique on several Floyd tunes. Yawn!

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
