International unrest, sick old men, what's happening??!!
Castro is Ill
I just had to read the headlines from the Miami Herald today after I heard Fidel had relinquished power to his brother because he was ill. Those Cubans in Miami know how to celebrate. I think this is it for that old man and very soon we'll see a New Cuba. All the refugees from 50 years ago haven't let go of the Homeland, and they've taught their children the same, so they've been waiting for 50 years to go back. The return of Cuba to a free-market economy won't be a brutal as Russia's was. The Cubans in Miami have everything planned, they've got the money, the ideas and the desire to return Cuba to the way it was Back In The Day. A good investment for the rest of us would be stock in transportation companies, to get the building goods and people to South Florida and Miami.
Israel
I don't pretend to completely understand the whole mess in the Middle East, but I'm scared. I was watching CNN last night, and while I understand they're a bit 'sensational' some points they were bringing up scared me. Hellzaboh, the terrorist group that Israel is attempting to bomb out of Lebanon and existance is supported by Syria and Iran. Iran is working to get The Bomb, and won't be afraid to use it. This could be A Very Bad Thing. The appropriation of lands by the Russians and Prussians in the 18th Century in Europe set the stage for WWI, and I know the appropriation of lands for Israel has set the stage for unrest. We've got all the crazy people running around fighting or threatening others, but what can we do? We don't have the right to force our ideals on other countries, but someone, uninvolved, has to 'babysit'. I love the way the press and politicians are using the civilians being killed as fodder. The Americans critize the press for using the dead Iraqi children as a focus in reporting, but that's all you hear about with the bombing now, the dead children. All of a sudden, it's a Terrible Thing. What little I know about war (and physics) if you bomb some place, innocent people will get killed. That's what happens. Do we all of a sudden believe the only ones who die in a war are soldiers??
Queen Noor
I turned on Larry King last night to watch the fluff interview with Cheryl Crow, only to get some more interviews about the Middle East. One of the guests was Queen Noor of Jordon. I've always liked her, she's an American who married King Hussein. She's a contemporary of mine, I don't know her, but she's about my age and grew up in the same area. Very attractive, intelligent, and influential. She's no longer queen, but I believe her son became King. She's well spoken, but she seemed to be very nervous last night, having trouble getting her thoughts together.
4th District Sparring
I watched the debate between Hank and Cindy last nigth, and I must say, I think Cindy pulled it off. She looked much more comfortable than Hank did, she smiled, spoke directly to the camera, thanked the moderator 'I'm so glad you asked that question.'. She's cleaned up her act, her hair was pulled back in a neat hair-do, not the wild unkempt do she's been sporting lately. She accused Hank of wrong-doings, he accused her of wrong-doings, and no questions were answered. Ahhh, political debates!

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'

I was in Jordan several years ago, but Middle East standard it is a very progressive country.
Abdullah II is the son of King Hussein's second wife (who I believe was British).
A little usless triva to take up space:
King Abdullah is an acknowledged fan of Star Trek. In 1995, while he was still Prince, he appeared as an extra in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Investigations." Abdullah's role was not given any speaking lines because he was not a member of the Screen Actors Guild.
