I had a job interview this morning in Alpharetta. I scheduled the interview so that it was in the middle of the day, not too close to either morning rush hour or evening rush hour. My interview was at 10:30, so I planned on leaving Decatur at 9:30-ish. You never know with Atlanta traffic. OK, so I left a little late (around 9:45-ish) and got on 285 west. 'Damn', I said, 'I shouldda gone down NDruid Hills to Buford Highway and picked up 400North!' I hate taking 285, it's always tied up. Actually, I lucked out this morning, traffic was cautious (under the speed limit, but moving) and I heard there was an accident on 85N at Buford Highway that effected 400, so I did the right thing. So I drove all the way up to Winward Parkway, but I didn't automatically know which direction to go. I had an address, so I tried to find at least 2 addresses so I'd know which direction I had to go in. Have you ever tried to find the address on a gas station or grocery store? A few years ago, Cobb county passed an ordinance that all stores had to have English language names so the fire and police departments could easily find them. If they would put numbers large enough on their buildings, ANYONE could find them easier!
So here I was in Big Office Building Land, and found some addresses. I was going the wrong way. I turned around, and followed the addresses only to find that Winward Parkway turned into Cogburn Rd and 5 digit addresses. I was looking for a low number in the 1000's. What? I had to call my friend Barbara who happens to work in a building right next door to where I wanted to go. She said I had to turn around, head back towards 400, and go another 5 or so miles until Winward Parkway dead ended into McGinnis Ferry Road. Then I'd have to turn left and turn right in to the next office park. Now, call me stupid, but the address of the company was Winward Parkway, and this was NOT on Winward Parkway. Maybe the engineers that 'designed' the Winward Parkway Big Office Buildings had decided to extend Winward Parkway beyond McGinnis Ferry Rd, but Publix got in the way. Maybe the company decided that an address on Winward Parkway was more prestigeous than a McGinnis Ferry address. So tomorrow I'm changing my address to Peachtree Street. Maybe my house will be worth more with that address....
So, if you have to go anywhere on Winward Parkway, get specific directions, don't be arrogant like me and assume you can find a building by something as obvious as the address.
Job Hunt
When I got home from the interview, I had another message about some job in Norcross. I guess when it rains it pours. Now I can only hope these computer dating things work the same way....
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
