It's cold and rainy today, but that's OK. I don't feel so guilty doing nothing. I spent 2 hours on the phone with my friend Terry. Whenever he calls, it's always hours on the phone. I met him about 10 - 15 years ago at a friends wedding in Va. and I didn't hear from him until about 3 years ago. He's just one of those guys that is easy to talk to and has a good sense of humor. He also holds seminars for displaced mid-level management, on how to find a new job. So I'm using some of his ideas.
Job Hunt
For those of you who haven't been unemployed for a few years, the job market has changed remarkably. No longer are there headhunters and all you must do is send them a copy of your resume and they will find a match for you. They won't even talk to you unless there is an opening. Most companies have their own web-site, where you can apply for a job. Then when you call to check on the status of your resume, you can't get anywhere. The receptionist will tell you that if you didn't get an error when you sent your email, they got it.
My Dad and I used to get into arguments after I got out of college about how to look for a job. He insisted that I go out and 'pound the pavement'. I wasn't doing anything if I didn't leave the house early and hit the job hunt. Funny thing, he was close to retirement from a company where he'd worked for 40 years, and he was a blue-collar worker. But Dad always knew best.
Baby Steps
OK, I made the first step, I joined NetFlix. I will now be getting DVD's on demand (or almost). The next step is to call Comcast and cancel my cable. I don't need to watch that much TV. I also got call forwarding put on my local service so I can forward all calls to my cell phone while using my dial-up. Now I just need to find the battery charger for the cell phone and my head set. It's always something.
Blue Friday
Sorry I was so down on Friday. I'm getting very bored. I've also had a headache for a few days, and I don't do pain very well. But I saw people this weekend, met new people and had a good time. So I'll be bored next Friday.... Some schedule, huh?
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
