Monday - A Day of Rest

What a weekend! Busy, busy, busy. And I even went to church!
Happy Mother's Day to all Mom's reading this.

Providence Canyon
Saturday I went to Providence Canyon, southeast of Columbus, for a nice hike. Providence Canyon is also known as the Georgia Grand Canyon, it's just a big hole. The hiking was pretty neat, down on the canyon floor, looking up. We had been out about 1/2 hour and the rains started. There is something empowering about hiking in the rain, ya know? I had a blast! I also discovered that my mascara is NOT waterproof. We hiked long enough in the rain to get plenty wet, then went back to the interpretive center (no longer the visitor's center) to wait till the rain passed, then started the hike around the rim of the canyon, about a 3 miler. We again ran into rain and took shelter under a picnic shelter. When the rain started, we hiked about another mile or 2 and some of us decided to go back. I was beat. So we walked back towards the Interpretive Center, visiting the Old Methodist Church and checking out the cemetary. It's kinda neat looking at the old tombstones and thinking about the lives those people led. We didn't party too much and were in bed at 10:00pm. I bonded with my roommate by saying 'goodnite!'. LOL.
Next morning was an early morning, leaving about 8 AM to go to the Maranatha Baptist Church of Plains, Ga. Yes, JC himself taught Sunday school. It was very interesting, being in so close to a former President. Jimmy Carter is quite an accomplished gentleman. You have to get to the church early as there is a limited section to sit in for visitors and it fills up fast! We had to empty our purses of all sharp objects, pen knives, metal nail files, etc. Then the Secret Service searched our bags. We then set in the center section, 6 to a pew, and were lectured to by Miss Jan, the Church Nazi. LOL! They have very strict rules to follow, you can only take pictures at certain times, you must answer Mr. Jimmy in short responses. You do not applaud or stand up when he comes in. You must stay thru the entire service in order to get a picture with the Carters. You are a hostage for God. Miss Jan was quite a task master, but she had such Southern Charm. It was all presented with a sense of humor, but she meant business. I'm sure these rules were put in place for a reason, and it all went well. After all, the Carters were there to worship, not politic and they have a life and don't need to stand around all day for everyone to get a picture.
After church we headed to Warner Robbins for the airshow there. We found a place to eat on the way and made it to Warner Robbins just in time to miss the show. It evidently started an hour earlier than we planned. Oh well.
All told, it was a great weekend. I met all sorts of new friends, had a good time and got some exercise, too!

Moving Time
I helped a friend move into a 4th floor condo on Friday. LeAnne is a hashner, but had moved earlier this year to NC. She decided to come back and I decided to help her move. It took us about 5 hours to move into her storage box and her condo, just the 2 of us. We worked hard. Afterwards we met some more hashers and Leanne's new roommate for some cheap Mexican food.

What Was I Thinking??
So after my short hike on Thursday (I found out it was more like 6.5 miles!), I helped a friend move on Friday and hiked another 4-5 miles on Saturday. I'm pooped! Now let's not ruin this by drinking lots of beer!

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
