Another Friday! WoooHooo!

Well, I didn't make anything exciting happen last night, I took a walk to the grocery store and came home. How exciting.

Banning Books
A woman (one person) has complained to the Gwinnett School Board that the Harry Potter books should be banned from the schools. The books don't agree with her religious beliefs and she thinks schools should teach morals and be a positive influence. I have lots of problems with this. So the books offend you, don't let your kids read them. They aren't required reading, so it would be easy(yeah, right) to keep them away from her kids. Better yet, read them together, discuss the books and why they are against your beliefs. But that isn't possible, that would mean spending time with your kids, and God knows, that can't happen.

I thought this country was founded on Majority Rule. One woman has a problem and the whole county has to conform? That isn't majority rule. Too many people are offended by too many things today. When I worked at the coffee shop, I was told that I could not refer to black coffee as black, I had to refer to it as 'with no cream or sugar', as I'd offend someone. My co-worker, Melody, a black woman, could refer to it as black coffee. These rules were made by people in Minnesota, who probably don't see too many black people and can only guess what offends them.

Sorry, I digress. This woman hasn't read the books, she's read parts and was offended. Hey, Genius, if you're going to bitch about something, at least know what you're bitching about. I've personally not read the Harry Potter books, but I've seen some of the movies. I can't see that they are any worse than some of the computer games or TV shows that influence kids. Of course, I'm not a parent, but I'm sure my kids wouldn't be affected by anything as they'd be in the closet until they are 40.

But then, I just proved myself a hypocrite (again) by having an opinion about something I haven't read. OK, I'll shut up now.

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'

I didn't read your whole post, but I think I'm offended. ;-)
