I've been actually using my treadmill regularly the past few weeks. I've been doing 30 minutes walk/run at a fairly fast pace with a small incline. Yea me! Yesterday, since the weather was so good and it's getting darker later, I took a walk. I have routes around neighborhoods in my area, about 3 miles. I cut it short last night as it was getting dark, but I still managed 45 minutes. It was beautiful! All the spring flowers are blooming. I didn't think it was that difficult of a walk and I thought I had better stamina, but I was asleep by 9pm! And I slept VERY well last night. I came in earlier today to do it again tonite!
What Am I Thinking?
I work at a warehouse, my office is located on top of very large coolers. As I walk thru the warehouse in the morning, I see lots of the cleaning staff, pickers, stockers, warehouse workers. I was thinking the other day that I should practice my high school Spanish by saying 'Hello' and 'Good Morning' to these nice folks. Then it occurred to me, Why should I have to learn a new language? I think they should learn English! My company is also interviewing for night shift warehouse manager. He/She is going to have to speak Spanish, just to communicate with the workers. History has proven this can't be stopped. Look at England when the William the Conquerer invaded. England spoke French as the 'official' language for many years until Henry II started using English in official documents. Not to mention the Celts, Picts and all the other tribes that were conquered. They had to change their language to get along. English will probably prevail as it's almost the International Language, but I believe we arrogant Americans will have to become bi-lingual.
Trying To Change Hearts and Minds
Last weekend, my parents and others were treated to a weekend at the Watergate Hotel, a tour of the Saudi Arabian embassy and the WWII monument in Washington, DC, all by the Saudia Arabian government. If they had lived outside of DC that would have included airfare to and from DC. The reason is the 60-year Anniversary of a meeting of F.D.Roosevelt and the Shiek of Saudi Arabia meeting onboard my Dad's WWII ship, the USS Quincy. They had a big celebration in Myrtle Beach last September, which I also attended. And because of all this Goodwill, the Saudi's have invited all crew members of the USS Quincy to become 'Friends of Saudi Arabia' a club. Of course, FDR wasn't there and neither was the Prince of Saudi Arabia, but their descendants were, FDR's Grand-son, Del (a politician from California) and a representative of the SA Government. I guess I'm now under survellience by Homeland Security for my connections to the SA Government.
But the real story is when they toured the new WWII monument in DC. Mom said the tour guide was of German descent, newly immigrated to the US as she still had a very strong German accent. She was telling the story of how the Allies bombed Germany, when all these WWII veterans politely, but pointedly reminded her that they bombed Germany due to Hitler's aggression. Mom said the tourguide made herself scarce during the rest of the tour. Another Government Oversite. What were they thinking??? Would they let a Vietnamese person lead a tour of Vietnam vets at the VietnamVetrans Memorial???
RPS
Scott Woodside, the former traffic reporter with WZGC (and DJ from DC) coined this phrase. At least he's the first person I heard using it. Residual Pinhead Slowing is what happens at an accident site in the uneffected lanes. Everyone has to slow down to look. Coming to work this morning, on the InnerLoop of 285 at Flat Shoals Rd, there was much police activity. Several police cars with the lights on and 6 or 8 other cars were pulled off the side of the road. I saw some people milling around and noticed 2 cars with flat tires. Don't know what was happening, but, by God, we were all driving slow enough to look. As I passed part of the RoadShow an 18-wheeler was passing me on the right, between me and the Show. I really thought the guy in front of me was going to slow down until the 18-wheeler passed so he could see what was happening. I was thankful he didn't, cuz I would have been rude.
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
