Between yesterday and today, I am the Most Disliked person here at my company. Due to some 'misinformation' our monthly closing didn't work this month, so I had to do some backups yesterday and this morning. That means everyone gets off the system. I've been dissed by owners, sales managers and warehouse supervisors. It's never a good time to stop what you're doing, even for 15 minutes. But then I got some history: The IT manager has been doing this for years and when he said 15 minutes, it usually meant 45 minutes to an hour. When I say 15 minutes, I mean 20 at the most. So I'm scoring Brownie points.
Exciting Stuff
The Shakespeare Tavern has a new facade! It was 'announced' yesterday, so read the article. It looks great! They've already had graffiti problems, and I assume that will always be a problem, but it still looks wonderful.
Stupid Crooks
I heard this on the news this morning. I guess he was just tired and lonely...
Who was that Man?
I'm sure some are asking 'Who was George Mason anyway?' Well there it is. I remember when George Mason University first became an entity. I had friends and socialized in Fairfax, but never that part. That was way far out, at least when I was living there.
It's a funny thing, this March Madness. I don't really follow it, but you can't help but hear something about it. A few years ago I heard about the opening rounds (the Boring Begining or whatever they call it) and Radford University was playing Duke. Radford had a basketball team? Radford was historically a teachers college and an extension of Virginia Tech.(Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, or as we lovingly called it Va-PIS-U.) My senior year, the freshman class was 50% men. Most of the graduates that year were teachers. My senior yearbook most graduates were listed as business majors. It was a heady time... We used Va Tech's computers for the few computer science classes we had and when they changed the passwords during their Spring Break they forgot to tell our professors. There was quite a scramble for a few days.
The professor that taught 'Into to Computers' was a former military guy with a buzz cut and a drinking problem. I remember one day he was hanging on to the chalk tray on the board to stand up. Huummm.
In my senior year I took ForTran. It was my only class on Fridays and it was at noon. Radford was a major commuter college, so the parties were all on Thursdays. I made a 'D' in that class, but it didn't disuade me from a career in computers. What was I thinking???
And Yes, I used a Key Punch machine. With IBM Cards.
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
