Dark Random Thoughts

Job Hunting sucks. I guess I'd better get used to it, statistics show that I'll probably be doing this at least every 2 years. And if I can't hold a job for longer than 7 months, I'll be burning thru my investments, 401K's and IRA's. I should be enjoying the lovely weather, time off and general relaxation, this may be my retirement. (That was meant to be sarcastic.)

Yes, it sounds bleak. I've been in a VERY dark mood this week. I heard from several head hunters last week about potential positions, at least 4. I called all my contacts on Monday, and NO ONE returned my call. One could say that no news is good news, but I don't believe that is true in the job hunt arena. So now what?

No one can get me out of this hole but myself. So what to do?

I did enroll in a class today, I've got 42 days to complete the course and get 18 out of 25 questions right on the final. I can do that. I've got nothing else to do. I've also been reading some white papers, learning new terms, getting some ideas as to what's hot in the IT/Analyst industry.

In my quest to find relevance, I've written an article for the PAWS Atlanta Spring newsletter (so I can add published author to my resume?) and I've volunteered to foster a mama kitty and her newborns until they are old enough for adoption. What have I gotten myself into ?? I've never had a kitten, I've always gotten my kitties when they are about 1 year old. This should prove interesting. I have to have a secluded, cozy space for them to live in and I can't let the other kitties around them, at least at first. (or maybe never, I go for more training on Friday.) The Humane Society will cover all expenses, food, litter, doctor's visits, so the only thing it will cost me is time. And God knows I've got plenty of that!

The pollen is killing me. I'm living on Claritin and kleenex. I'm all puffy and retaining water. I did the Blood Mountain hike on Saturday, 2.5 miles up and over rocks, and 2.5 miles down. It felt more like 20,000 leagues up. I thought I was in better shape than that, but, as one hiker put it, I got my butt handed to me on that hike. I thought I was going to die. Of course, I'm still a bit stiff, my quads are killing me. But I did it. The hike leader probably won't let me hike with him again until I lose 20 lbs! This was the same trail that Meredith Emerson hiked on New Year's Day when she was kidnapped and later murdered by that loser. There was a nice memorial to her at one of the turns on trail.

I'm looking at some volunteer positions with the Red Cross (as well as employment positions. They have a Requirements Analyst position in DC, sound familar, Lil sis? I'm going to hit VolunteerMatch.com today also. And I think I'll go hike Stone Mountain.

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'

Good job doing that hike, I've heard it isn't that easy.
As for jobs, I think finding something you enjoy, and making a few bucks while you are looking for the "real" job is the best idea. That way you won't drainthe savings account quite so fast.

Beware, the Red Cross is downsizing.... If you can get in as a contractor go for it. They pay contractors well, just don't expect it to last to long.

A friend's architectural firm (Sage Hill area) is needing a receptionist. Not your ideal, but it's something. Email me if you want the info.
