Same Old, Same Old

Tried to post earlier, but I don't have much to say...

Job Hunt
Contacted some temp agencies this morning. One guy just didn't get what I was asking for so I went to another. Now I have to 'practice' with Excell/Access/VB. At least it's something to do!
Tomorrow is a Technical job Fair sponsered by Dice.com. I will be there, resumes in hand, business cards ready. Back In The Day, when I was a YUPPIE (Young, Up-wardly Mobile Person) and lived in Power Suits, I didn't think it was acceptable to wear slacks to a job interview. In this day of Business casual, (and the fact that I'm 20 years older), is wearing slacks acceptable? I hope it is, I don't own a business suit anymore (that I can fit into!) I've got a black jacket, black slacks, nice printed shirt (or plain, whatever) and I guess that will work. It's cooler outside, so the black stuff will work.

Middle-Aged Madness
Seems like there's a moment in some women's lives where they just don't Give A S**t. I've had several friends who, somewhere in their early- to mid-40's who've lost or quit their jobs and spend some time not doing anything. These are single women who don't have kids or ex-husbands and can take the time to not do anything. You just get tired of PMS (Putting up With Men's S**t) in the workplace, and, I guess you just don't care. Maybe it's related to The Change. Historically, I'm not aware of this happening, but I think we are the first wave of educated, employable, working women who haven't taken the Baby-route. We are just worker-bee's, middle-management who've been doing the same thing for 20 years. We aren't going anywhere in the company, and we aren't happy with where we are. Is this normal behavior, or do I just need to increase the dosage of my Happy Pills?

What are they Thinking??
I read several articles in the AJC Sunday dealing with holding kids back in school when they don't make the grade. Both mentioned that when a student 'fails', they develop low-self-esteem and maybe don't work as hard as they could. I can understand this, being called a failure at such a young age could be detrimental to children. But to be promoted to a higher grade that builds on what you learned in the lower grades isn't the answer either. That, too would build low self-esteem, if you can't ever grip what the other students are learning. Why can't we (parents, schools, society) start expecting kids to achieve? Seems like there aren't any expectations for anyone any more. I've know of several companies that have a 'review' process, if you are fired, you can challenge the firing and get your job back. So sub-standard workers can keep working at jobs they aren't good at. I guess the expectation we have is to have a job and make money whether we can do the job or not. So what's wrong with me?? I can't even get a job I can't do! (I really do need to increase the dosage!) Sarcasm doesn't come across well when typing!

What Else can I Bitch about??
Any other topics? Anyone got any ideas? Give me a project! LOL! I spent some time yesterday researching Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii due to the visit to the Carlos Museum on Saturday. That led to research on Disasters in the US. Why are we fascinated with disasters?
Of course, 9/11 gets it's own category, but the worst flood in the US was the Johnstown Flood in Pennsylvania in 1889. I really do need to increase my dosage!! LOL!

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
