Whazzup?

A great Day Off with a long walk, good friends, a parade and just general silliness!

Pub Crawl
Yesterday was the big Peachtree Pub Crawl during the Peachtree Road Race. Always the ridiculous thing to do on July 4th, the hashers met at a new bar with$1 beers. Because I wasn't sure about the parking and traffic situation, I got there about 6:30-ish. That's AM. People started dragging in about 6:45AM or so and we all got t-shirts and a beer. We watched the wheelchair racers go by and the 'professional' runners, then the first groups of racers, then we were off. With beer in hand about 100 of us started our annoying 'walk' down Peachtree, harassing runners, singing funny songs, bringing a smile to some people's faces. Seems like we had a beer stop every .1 mile! Evidently, this was a bigger crowd than last year, so the we ran out of beer at a few stops. (!) It was bottled beer, so you can't get the cap off and the beer poured quick enough. But it's all good.
I know of at least 3 times some runner ran by yelling at us 'Walkers to the right!' We were to the right, sort of. We kinda took up the middle. It's not a Race, it's supposed to be fun. But then, have you ever seen a jogger with a smile on their face?? I understand that it's a long race, and you've got a good pace going, you know you've got a hill coming up, and these annoying drunks get in your way, but you're also running with 55,000 other runners. What did you think, you'd have your own lane??!! Get over yourself.
We got to one intersection and the light turned red. What do you do at a red light? Stop, of course. Here we were, in the middle of the road telling all the runners to stop for saftey's sake. There was a cop standing there and you could tell by the look on his face he didn't know what to do. Should he make us move on? Should he just leave us alone?? What were we doing, anyway? By the time he'd decided what to do, the light turned green and we were gone. Poor guy.

HOT
Oh, and did I mention it was HOT? and Humid. I don't think I finished a beer all day except at the start. It was too hot, and I didn't really care for the beer we were drinking. I just sipped on some beer and some of the COLD water I had with me. Amazingly, after 6 scheduled beer stops and some extra credit beer stops, I wasn't drunk. Barely buzzed. I was actually home by about noon. It's amazing how long the morning is when you start drinking at 7am!

Job Hunt
Nothing on Monday, yesterday was a holiday and I don't expect much to get done at any company this week. I'm going to apply for more jobs, and contact some head hunters, but I don't expect much to get done this week. In the meantime, I guess I'll polish up my skills with Access and try for a temp position. Back In The Day, I struggled to pass a typing test as I'd never taken typing (and never needed it). Now, I can pass a typing test, it's the database test I don't do well in. Isn't that funny, I've worked with databases and as a DBA, but I couldn't pass a test with Access? (I've never used Access. I can convert an Access table to other types of data and can import tables into access, but I've never had to use that as a tool.) As I've always said, I went to college to Have a secretary, NOT be one. Isn't it funny how things come back at you?

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
