Well, I attempted to post several times earlier, and couldn't, so we'll try again.
Cancer Vaccine
I was reading in the paper that the CDC is attempting to set standards for a vaccine to be given to girls as young as 9 to prevent the virus that causes cervical cancer (HPV). The AJC attempted to make the article sound as if the Religious Extremists are against the vaccine, but (printed in the article!) the Christian Coalition and Focus on the Family opposes making the vaccine mandatory for entry into school. OK, that's fair. The article attempted to show that the RE was against the vaccine as it promoted promiscuity. That OK that the parents should make the decision when or if the minor gets the shot. I was getting all fluffed up over nothing.
Job Hunt
That's pretty much all I blog about anymore, that's pretty much all I can blog about anymore. God, I'm bored.
I had no sooner sent an email this morning to the person listed when he called me back. What do these head hunters do, just sit and wait for a potential candidate? That's kinda scary. So he's sending me another email with all the 'Key Words' that the client is looking for in the resume and I have to redo my resume to fit that. OK, so this job will be a given almost, right?
This is really scary, he's back on the phone. He's had to put me on hold twice to ask some questions. Huummm. OK, so I did my resume the way he wanted, but he wants me to put something on there about Oracle. Hhuumm, I've never done anything with Oracle. I told him I'm not going to lie, but he said I need to get that somewhere on there so I can get the interview. Anyone know of any tutorials about Oracle? That seems to be the only thing I'm lacking in the clients skill set. He's offering me a pretty good hourly rate, so it would be worth the effort to work this out.
Why does a Business Analyst have to know something about Oracle? Doesn't my 10+ years in IT make any difference? I've created relational databases and I actually did DBA work on the mainframe for awhile. I understand the concepts needed to design and 'normalize' a database. Why are alot of these BA positions concerned with MS Office suite? I know how to type, I've converted raw data into Excel spreadsheets and vice versa. Why is this important to the job? Must I be able to take dicatation too? I thought a BA was less technical than a programmer.
Internet Radio
I know, in this day of MP3's and I-pods and XM radio, I'm so lagging behind the times, but I have discovered Internet Radio. Yesterday, I was listening to Irish folk music in Irish and today I've discovered a GREAT station 4U-Rock and Metal. I need to figure out how I can quickly and easily turn the sound down when I get a phone call. I'm a Prog Rock enthusiast, and there is a very fine line between progressive rock and heavy metal. Don't ask what that line is, but think about the difference between Led Zeppelin and King Crimson. Amazing guitar solos, great lyrics, so one you can dance to and the other maybe some interpretive dance. Anyway, give this station a listen. If you can suggest any other station, let me know, this stuff is great!
Baby Steps
I've been working out, trying to get some of this weight off, but last night, I noticed Kroger had Ben&Jerry's on sale 2 for $5. (Why was I in the Ice Cream aisle anyway??) I got a 1/2 pint of VerMonty Python and a 1/2 pint of Dublin Mudslide. OMG. What lovely stuff. VerMonty Python is 'Coffee Liquer Ice Cream with Chocolate Crumb Swirl and Fudge Cows' and Dublin Mudslide is 'Irish Cream Liquer Ice Cream with Chocolate Chip Cookies and a Coffee fudge Swirl'. Detect a theme here? I picked up this horrible Ice Cream fetish 20 years ago, after my car wreck. I was hospitalized and they serve sherbet after every meal, so when I got home, my parents had to spoil me as I was still 'disabled'. So for another 2 months, I got ice cream after every meal, and I just haven't quit. I've slowed down a lot (only in the summer and only every once in a while) but I still have a soft spot for ice cream. Yes, I do live within walking distance of a Brusters, but I if you get something at Brusters you have to eat it all at once, not stretch it out over 2 nights. (Right, like 1/2 pint lasts longer than one night!)
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
