I've been thinking a lot lately about the difference. I sometimes feel like I'm spending all my time catching up or cleaning up the mess I've made by waiting too long. So I should take the bull by the horns and become ProActive. I know I'm going to have hayfever problems, so I'll bite the bullet and go to the allergist, pay her lots of money only to be told I'm allergic to cats, dust, mold and pollen, all the things that are in my house. At least I can get some meds to help me breathe. I was taking some allergy meds once that worked just fine, until I ran into a friend with a bottle of wine. We drank 2 bottles of wine thru the course of the evening. I finally became human around 5pm the next day. I was so sick on just a bottle of wine. This happened a few times, so I decided 'Breathe? or Drink?' Breathing is so overrated.
We have a new HR person starting March 13 (that would be Monday) and my boss is going to have to set up a new computer for her. So I'm going down to the computer room today to set the machine up and connect it to the network so he can logon and fix it. (I am incapable of doing this job due to my inexperience, my lack of understanding and my lack of a male appendage.) But I'm not arguing, I have no interest in doing that. Choose your arguements. So instead of waiting till 4:45 on Friday when he calls to remind me, I've got time today, so I'll set it up today.
Illegal Immigrants
We are implementing a new attendance/safety policy here at work, giving rewards to people for showing up as scheduled, working a full week as scheduled and not having any accidents. I didn't realize this was a problem, but I guess it is. (Where did the work ethic go? That's another rant) Anyway, we had several meetings to present this to the warehouse staff. We had to have a translator there for the folks that don't speak English. Hhhuuummm.. I guess I best get over it and brush up my Spanish. I was listening to talk radio on my way home yesterday and a caller had a brilliant idea: Why not make all foreign workers here now US citizens, so they will have to pay taxes. That way the US can support all these people. If these people keep coming in, it will place an undue burden on the infastructure of this country. Obviously our immigration policies aren't working, so let's rethink this idea. Things have changed drastically since this policy or policies were put into place, so let's redefine the problem. This is a business approach. If a business has a problem, they look into it to determine if the policy has to be rewritten. We can't afford to throw any more money at it.
Will this 'cheapen' US citizenship? I don't think so. It's all about money and as long as the US can offer more money, everyone will want to live and work here. They should pay for that privilage, though.
Hold the Phone!
I'm listening to an interview with Shirley Franklin on the radio now and she just said that until all the elected officials in the Atlanta Metro area get together to work on the traffic issue, it won't go away. Knock me over with a feather! Cobb, Cherokee, Gwinnett and all the other metro counties MUST work together to develop a mass transit solution. Until we are all on the same page, nothing will be resolved. Cobb County, Wake UP! This area doesn't revolve around Marietta, it's not the place most citizens work. Take your CCT and combine it with a regional solution.
What I don't understand is how MARTA buses work. I lived in DC when the METRO system first came into being and, even though I was very young and not interested in commuting, I seem to recall they changed the bus routes to service the subway. Routes were changed and added that terminated at the nearest Metro station. I could catch an express bus from where I lived in the Virginia (still inside the Beltway) directly to the Pentagon Metro. It would limit it's stops to route 236 and jump on I-395 to the station. I now live in Dekalb county, close to several Marta stations, yet I cannot get a bus directly to a Marta station. So I'm in my car to drive to Marta, why not drive all the way to work?
40 is the new 30
I've been saying that for a few years now! I had a wonderful evening with some of my friends last night and I met even one more person turning 40 this year. What was it about 1966? So I have again decided that I, too, turned 40 (again) this year. It was fun to get together with friends and discuss (in no certain order) men, boys, not having men or boys, kids, not having kids, dogs, cats, adventures, travels, hiking, hashing, just lots of stuff. It was a very enjoyable evening! Thanks Karen.
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
