The First Day

It's finally here, the first day of work. In some ways it's like the first day of school, I'm excited, scared, tense. The Unknown is always scary. I'll survive, I've got confidence...

Gadgets
I've been accused of being a 'gadget' person, getting neat little things, whether I need them or now. My latest fascination is thermometers. I'm ALWAYS hot in my house, regardless of how low the thermostat is. I've had an older thermometer in the bedroom, and it always read 80 degrees, so I've been looking for some small decorative thermometers to keep in the bedrooms to see how hot it really is. (Or am I really experiencing hot flashes?!) I found some yesterday. Most hardware stores have their 'garden' or summer stuff on sales, and I guess thermometers are considered summer merchandise. I now have thermometers in all rooms, and an indoor/outdoor thermometer in the master bedroom and kitchen.

Right now, it's cooler outside than it is inside, but the humidity is oppressive. I'm trying to get ready to go to work and it would be impossible to do that with the windows open. It seems to me that the house gets cool, but doesn't retain that temperature. My house is very cold in the winter time, too. So I guess something to add to the List is to replace the windows. They are drafty and not the most efficient. I've got 12 windows, so it will be a slow process. Hopefully is IS the windows, but I'd also guess the insulation isn't the best. The folks that built this house weren't professionals and, my understanding is they were fairly cheap, too. So they probably cut a few corners, getting the cheapest supplies.
