More Rantings

Haven't read the paper yet, but I'll find something to rant about.

Ode to a Curling Iron
My curling iron/hot brush died. I've had this device for a long time, and it's great. It has an automatic shut-off, and I can't forget to turn it off. It also has 25 heating levels, of which I only use 1. Who has time to test 25 heat levels?? I think I bought it when I lived in Florida and that's been just about 10 years ago and it has lasted me this long. I took it home for Christmas one year and forgot to bring it home, so my sister kept it for about a year and loved it. I've been having problems with the on/off switch for a while, I have to talk nicely to it for it to come on and finally it just wouldn't listen. So what to do? I've looked for this model many times at all the local stores and can't find it. So I used the 'magic of the internet' and found one at an online shop. I guess I paid $10 more than I could have had I found it in a store, but it's worth it. The auto cut-off is worth much more. I sent my sister an email with the webpage where I found it in case she wanted one too and her response to me was 'I have to have atleast 1.5" '. Hhuum. Don't we all?? This one is 1.25" and it makes me happy...

Microwave
I did buy a new microwave yesterday. I went several places and couldn't find anything I liked. I bought my printer and answering machine at Wal-Mart, so I thought I'd try the Microwave selection. I don't think I'll shop at Wal-Mart anytime soon. The merchandise is stocked haphazardly, boxes are open and most of the display items are just that, display items, no stock. I went to Target just to look, but I ended up at Best Buys. I found a nice oven by a company called 'LG', but I took a chance. As I'm sitting here typing, with lights on and the fridge, I've not tripped the breaker. So that was a good guess. Now what to do with a crippled microwave? It still heats, but I guess there's a short somewhere in the wiring, it doesn't have many lights for the time and the glass turntable doesn't turn.

Neighborhood Gossip
One good thing about working at the local grocery store is that you get to see all your neighbors. My next door neighbor (Dan? Tom? See how close we are?) told me Sunday about a tragedy. First, let me give you a bit of history. All the property on my street was owned by one family, Back In The Day. In the 1940's the army built some officer housing on some lots, but most was owned by this family. I believe they had some ownership of the used car dealership that used to grace the land where the Car Wash is and they had some ownership of the land where Brusters now is and the building across the street. Through the years, they've all sold out and moved or passed on. A few decades ago, one of the children took to building. He built the house 2 doors down and helped with the building of my home. Since I've been here, this guy, Randall, sold the house he built, built another log cabin at the end of the street lived there for a few years and then sold it and moved to the lake.
Seems like Randall and his wife were having issues and he just snapped. He went to where she worked, shot her and shot himself. That explains all the people at the house across the street from me a few months ago. A woman and her mother live there, and it seems that Randall was married to the woman's sister. I live in the middle of all this and I missed it!

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'

You should be okay with the LG, they are a big Korean electronic company (they bought out Zenith sometime in the 90s). They do a lot of cell phones and televisions.
