I still enjoy my days off, I like the quiet.
Tis The Season
Party, party, party. It sucks being me!
A Bit Pissy
I had a small melt-down the other day at work. 2 women came in to buy food, and used their EBT card (food Stamps). I was working the Express Lane, and it was around lunch time, so we had a line. They didn't have enough money on their EBT card, and they didn't SPEAK ENGLISH!! They had no idea what I was trying to say to them. So after a few minutes of pantomime (you, pointing at them, pay me this, pointing to the display screen, and them shaking their heads) I was going to take it all up to customer service so they could deal with taking items off, when the CSR came to me and deleted the hot foods. Did you know you can't buy hot foods with an EBT card? They were purchasing rotisserie chickens. So that was a bit frustrating. I'm definately looking into food stamps.
So the next day was Senior Citizens Day, they get a 5% discount. Lots of seniors still write checks, lots of seniors can't find their money, don't count fast enough, can't hear and are sometimes confused. I can deal with them, but it can get a bit tense. I can deal with them much more than I can people on cell phones and just plain cheap people. You know the ones, you ring up their order, they realize they don't have enough money, so they go thru their bags pulling out things to remove.
Anyway, the store wanted us to push some charity food items, we've filled bags with canned goods and priced them, the customers buy these bags and we donate them to Feed The Hungry.
They come in 2 price levels, all under $10. The problem was when someone bought a bag, I sent the bag boy to pick it up. I told him how much she wanted to donate, and he was off. It took him a long time and the woman almost walked. Turns out, I don't think the bag boy can read. He's learning disabled, and he does a great job bagging, he just can't read. I got real frustrated as I was trying to get these folks thru the line and push the charity product. So I go to the Customer Service manager and ask him how to handle it, as I'm not supposed to leave the register. It all worked out, but the issue is I'm not used to working with LD people or any other disability. (I did work with a deaf programmer, the best kind. Nothing distracts him from his job!) I've always worked with professionals (OK, mostly programmers who are socially retarded, not mentally retarded). So this is something I have to work on if I want to stay in this arena.
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
