Post 9/11 and other Thoughts

Just more prattling today. I watched TV more than usual yesterday and saw too much of coverage of 9/11 Tributes.

Post-9-11
Yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of the Terrorist Attack on US Soil. It's a terrible thing to have happened, but I think the media over did the day. I watched CNN almost all morning yesterday and on their website they were rebroadcasting the original reports As They Happened. Isn't there anything else happening??? (Obviously not, the only other reporting all morning was on Hurricane Florence just missing Bermuda and the Atlanta - SanFran jet forced to land in Dallas due to an unclaimed Blackberry.)
At least they didn't show all 4 hours of relatives reading the names of all 3000 people killed. Now, I was saddened as much as anyone and I find it was a Terrible Thing to have happened, but are we going to do this every year? 4 hours of reading the names of people killed? Who are we getting next year, neighbors and co-workers?? Do we have a reading of the names of everyone killed at Pearl Harbor? Maybe, but it's not televised. I guess in this day and age of individualism, no one wants to be forgotten. Maybe all this was started by the Vietnam Vetrans Memorial in DC with a list of names. No other monument was designed quite the same way before that. It is a very moving monument, just a quiet commentary of (in my opinion) a misguided war. Lots of people had issues with the design one group whined enough that a statue was placed on the grounds a few years after the monument was built. But are we going to have to list everyone who participated in certain events? Isn't it enough that their families and loved ones remember them? Or is the point to give the families and loved ones their 15 minutes of fame every year? Didn't they already get lots of money from this disaster?? (<== Sorry, catty remark.)

Speaking of Misguided Wars
President Bush was once again trying to defend his war-mongering in his speech last night. As most Americans, I agreed that we had to go in and get Bin-Laden. But why didn't we get him before we changed direction? Any manager or organized person will tell you that you shouldn't attempt one project without completing the first one. And, by the way, what is the Goal in Iraq? 'A Democratic Iraq'? 'Peace in the Middle East'? 'We control the Oil'? Democracy demands that different types of people work together, something the people in Iraq don't seem to understand (or ever have, historically). And their religous beliefs don't seem to jive too well with that goal. I'm not criticizing the Iraqi or Muslim peoples, but the best type of government for one country isn't necessarily decided by other countries. There are so many other issues, social, religious, historical that need to be taken into consideration, but weren't.
Anyone who's lived through a corporate takeover knows that change is hard. Imagine how a country would feel if, all of a sudden, a different country that is not well liked, takes over and kills your ruler and changes everything? Wouldn't you be a bit upset? Granted, the Ruler was a sick individual, but he had told these people how and what to think, how to act, what was right and wrong and what punishments were to be given. Here comes an opposite country, again, not well liked, and changes everything. These people (Iraq) now have to think for themselves, but there are no clear rules as to what is right or wrong. A lot of what used to be Right is now Wrong. This is a Very Long Term project, one which was not thought out to begin with. We needed to get Bin-laden, but because Saddam Hussein 'tried to kill my Daddy', we're stuck in this morass.
During WWII, we (with our Allies) defeated Imperial Japan and Hitler in 4 years. Because we had clearly defined goals. Vietnam lasted 25 years. What was our goal there? What is our goal in the Middle East? See the similarities???

Job Hunt
Thanks for all the advice. I have never done a temp agency, but I guess I will now. I promise I'll get to one tomorrow.... I have to finish some planting before it rains today. Haven't I told you that I'm the Queen of Procrastination? I'm formulating a plan, as I type. I heard something on TV today that eased some of my apprehension 'A New Begining Begins with the End of the Old'.
It just sucks, and it's quite disappointing to think I did something for 20 years and I can't even get an interview in the same field. Did I waste 20 years? I guess the question should be 'how can I use what I learned in my next career?' Somehow, I don't think computer programming is good for much in any other type field. Although I have great typing skills, and I am able to do boring stuff for long amounts of time. Sounds like I'm good for the USPS!

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'

I worked a lot with Temp agencies while in college (I made a living doing nothing else while I was in London). Almost always had a good experience, only once did I show up and no one knew why I was there...the place was crazy, the people rude and I was happy to leave and still got paid for the entire day. Good luck!
