Cell phones, dogs and More Drama, what everyone wants!
The Gay Drama, last installment
It's over, at least for me. And, alas, it's ended sadly. After trying to connect with My Hairdresser (although not putting too much effort into it), Cathy and I went over to his old apartment last night to go thru his roommates stuff to see if we wanted anything. My Hairdresser had been moving some things, but when we got there, Cathy and I realized there was still a problem, he was slurring his speech. He's being evicted from his current apartment due to non-payment of rent, but he told me last week one of his clients had given him some money. Cathy and I were agonizing over whether to give him his dog back, he was whining about how he missed her, but we both feel she would be better off where she is, but how to approach him? We went over there together to put pressure on him to not take her back. I decided, when I found out he was drunk, that he's not getting the dog back. I know it's not my decision to make, but possession is 9/10ths of the law and the dog is in good hands. He's not gone to any brevement sessions, only one AA session and he never went back for his evaluation at the Crisis center. 'They never called me' he said. He's not made any effort to call them or find any counseling groups. He was hanging out with a friend who had bought him some Vodka, but (the friend) was quite distraught when he heard MH should have been going to AA. 'I didn't have gas money', he said as his reason for missing AA. I'm done with it. I'm very sad this had to happen, I don't see anything good coming from this, and unless he takes responsibility for himself, I don't see it ending well for him. I feel bad kidnapping his dog from him, I know how I'd feel if someone took my kitties away from me, but I also think that I'd know when I couldn't take care of them. Now I have to find a new hairdresser. Bummer.
Put That Cell Phone Down
Unincorporated Dekalb county is signing a law today tacking on a fine of $500 if you are in an accident that was caused by being on a cell phone. The fine should be higher. This isn't infringing on anyone's right to use a cellphone, you just have to pay the consequences if there is an accident. I've almost been hit twice by people on cell phones.
Commuter Hell
I read this article in the Washington Post about the Wilson Bridge that spans the Potomac River in DC. I did that commute for about a year, in 1983 when they did the redecking. What a disaster. The Bridge is I-95/I-495 on the east side of the city and connects Maryland and Virginia. The original bridge was a drawbridge as the Potomac has some barge traffic. As the bridge aged, the drawbridges became unpredictable. I remember several times the brige span would be stuck in the open position, bringing traffic along the East Coast corrider to a standstill. Wonder how long this new, efficient 12-lane bridge will take before it becomes a Traffic Nightmare?
Job Hunt
Last night on TV, I found the Perfect Job! A woman teaches cats to swim. I couldn't find any links to that topic, but the video clip showed a Persian cat swimming. Now, I would think it would be easier in a pool as there's more room and a cat's natural reaction would be to swim. I've tried to bathe cats, and it's not a fun thing to do. Lot's of bad feelings on everyone's part, not to mention the blood letting and the wet clothes. I'm not sure why you'd want to teach your cat to swim, they are pretty sure-footed and wouldn't mistakenly 'fall' in the pool. I guess that would be a more thankless job than I had in IT at Bellsouth. I did find pictures or a breed of cat that does like the water.
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
