And So It Goes

Another weekend, more fun, new friends. And some of the Same Old Same Old.

Atlanta Tourist
I was a tourist this weekend. My friend Barbara and I went to the 'Bodies' exhibit at the Civic Center, the Margaret Mitchell House, lunch at 6Feet Under, drinks at JavaVino and we watched a band at 2Urban Licks. It was fun. The 'Bodies' exhibit was really good. Don't be afraid to go because they use real bodies, it's extremely educational, and you just may learn something. It's not gross, a slasher movie is worse. You get to see how the bones, ligaments, muscles, blood vessels and nerves all work together, in 3-D. The Mitchell house was OK, the tour guide didn't seem to really be into it, and frankly, there isn't much to tell about. They have a separate section dedicated to the Movie. A statistic quoted on one of the narratives said that 90% of Americans have seen 'Gone With The Wind'. Guess what, I'm one of the 10% that hasn't seen it! I've seen parts, but not the entire movie. I think I'd rather read the book...

Restaurant Reviews
JavaVino is a coffeehouse/wine bar. It's pretty neat, the wine buyer is a very nice, friendly woman and they have a pretty good selection of wine. We didn't eat there, nor did I have any coffee, but the atmosphere was that of any Coffee shop on a rainy Saturday, quite, some folks working, some reading the paper, mostly in groups of one. We relaxed there for about 2 hours. I'd go back.

2 Urban Licks is a restaurant in a converted warehouse, large, cavernous and LOUD! The kitchen is situated in the middle of the room and all the seating is around that. The bar is off to one side and there's a smaller, more intimate room behind the bar. The band played at the bar in the corner. We weren't all that far from the band, but couldn't hear them. I walked over to the window area on the opposite side and couldn't hear the band at all. We only ordered appetizers, but they were very good. I'll bet the entree's are great, if you can find one you like, the menu is quite limited and pricy. The band was good, this just wouldn't be my idea of a good time. It's definately not a date place as you couldn't talk to your date easily over the din. I'm not sure why one would go there, except to experience the food. They did have a nice patio area with seating which is probably the way to go.

More Tavern
I also went to the Theater this weekend. I went to 'MidSummer Night's Dream' at the Shakespeare Tavern . Always enjoyable, this was the closing performance, so that usually means Anything Goes. This play within a play is fairly bawdy, but they push the envelope. August is the time when they introduce some new Interns, so there were a lot of new faces, which was refreshing. Jeff McCurley was Out Of Control as was Kirk Seaman. Very nice end to a nice weekend.

Walking Tours
I did find a book at the Margaret Mitchell House that had walking tours of Atlanta. I think the best way to see any city is to do a walking tour. I've done walking tours in London and try to do some tours in every city, so why not the city I live in? There's not much to Atlanta until the Civil War, but lots happened after that. Besides, it will give me something to do when I get bored. And the price is right!

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
