Betcha didn't expect that from me on a Monday..
Shakespeare, Mojito's and SOB's
Friday I met my friend the Barbara's, and one Barbara's husband and another couple to see 'The Glass Menagerie' and the Shakespeare Tavern. It was a very good production, but Tennessee Williams is a bit depressing. Seems any story about a southern family is depressing...
Saturday my friends Marty and Lynn invited me for an impromptu cookout. There were about a dozen people, some new faces, some I've met before. Susan is a bartender and had brought all the goodies for making Mojito's. What a fabulous summer drink! So I had a glass of wine, some mojitos (rum), an extra Lynchburg Lemonade(burbon) and of course, the ever present White Russians(vodka). And I wasn't hung over on Sunday!
Sunday I had committed to doing the Sunday Morning Run, but couldn't find directions, so I walked instead to the CVS for a newspaper and read the paper. I decided to do the Slow Old B*stards as I needed some exercise and it was Judy's birthday. It was a little warmer than I anticipated, but it was nice. Mud, shiggy, goose eggs, dead possums, we saw it all. SOB's used to have a great selection of adult beverages, but yesterday even the beer was gross. I must discuss with the beer meister.
The Reason Why I'm So Happy
Friday was the Day From Hell. I stayed up way too late on Thursday, so I was tired. Then I get to work and get a rude message from my boss that I had to set up a switch, computer, projector, and install some software, all before 10am. No reason why, but step by step instructions : Go to shipping and get the computer we (I) set up in there. Go to the computer room and get the switch.... Well, I lost it. He always does that, last minute stuff I have to do. He knew this training session was going to take place, he'd told me about it the day before. I assumed it was his responsibility, as most everything else was, so I didn't inquire about what may be needed. (There was sarcasm in that last statement) I was dressed to go to the Tavern directly after work, so I didn't plan on crawling on the floor or having to move equipment. I let him have it. I just said (in a very irritated manner) that I would have appreciated a little more notice that this was going to have to be done. Anyway, when he finally got into the office, we had a face-to-back confrontation, I told him I didn't appreciate his last minute stuff and all he said was 'Would you talk to the owners like this?' and turned his back. So about 3 pm, I was called into the HR office and they told me my position had been eliminated. It had nothing to do with the events of the day, it was a business decision. I can't tell you how relieved I am. I was only there 7 months, and I got 4 weeks severence with benefits thru May. Pretty good. So I'm off to the unemployment office today, I'm off to apply as a temp at Emory University and I'm off to get some free mulch at the county and work in the garden. I'm getting my bike fixed so I can ride more and lose some of this weight. I'm going to start visiting some beading stores to get some help on better ways to do things, and I can start reading books again! I've got the resume in shape, ready to start applying for jobs. I have a more focused idea of what I want to do now, so it will be a more fruitful job search. If you know of anyone looking for a Business Analyst, I'll send a copy of my resume. I speak English and Techie. Then there's still the coffeeshop concept...
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
