Of Tires, Batteries and Kitties...

So much has happened in such a short time...

Of Tires and Batteries
The day before I left Atlanta, when I had those 2 interviews (seems like eons ago!) I had a slight issue with the left front tire, it was low on air. I inflated it, and went on to the interviews, did some shopping and came home. The next day, I was all packed up, the car was loaded, the kitties fed and all was ready to go, when I looked at the tire and it wasn't just low on air, it was FLAT. It was 10am on Saturday and I had to be in Roanoke, Va that night. What to do?? I emptied the trunk of the car and changed the tire. I looked at the old tire and it looked like I'd run over a nail or something. I had noticed my neighbor had to change one of her tires just last week, so I figured it was all the construction they're doing on Lawrenceville Highway. I drove up to the tire store, had them plug the tire and off I went. I made it to Roanoke, then drove to DC the next day.

My sister drove the next few days, but as we were leaving on Wednesday, I noticed the right rear tire was a bit low. I had an interview on Thursday, so I didn't get in the car till then. I started the car, and nothing happened. I tried a few times and finally, it turned over. I'm guessing it's the battery, I can't remember when I bought this one, so I guess it's time. The tire was fine, I had my interview and all was well.

I was planning on driving to Raleigh, NC on Friday but wasn't planning on leaving until the afternoon, so I went to spend some time with Mom and Dad. Other events took place, and I decided to stay until Saturday, so Daddy and I went to have the tire plugged. They found a screw, (again, I'm blaming the construction!) on the sidewall and plugged it. I left the next morning. Traffic on 95 south was HORRIBLE and it took me 3 hours to get to Richmond, Va. It was hot and miserable, but I was only going to Raleigh, so that was OK. Somewhere around Oxford, NC (about 30 miles from Raleigh) I heard a pop, and realized I had a problem. I pulled onto the side of 85 South, to find the right back tire, the one I'd plugged the day before, had blown out. What to do? Same thing as before, I changed the tire. If I'd been younger, thinner and worn tight clothes, I probably would have had some help, but as it was, I was on my own. That slowed me down tremendously, from 85 to 65. When I finally made it to where I needed to go, I was able to buy a new tire.

The trip from Raleigh thankfully lacked any drama, other than the traffic jam on I40 Westbound. So now I have one plugged tire, one full of Fix-A-Flat, one older tire and a brand spanking new tire. I'm not doing anything until the construction is done. I will have to buy a new battery someday soon.

Of Kitties
My parents' cat, Foxy, has been rather ill for awhile. When I was up there earlier this summer, she was taking thyroid pills and had lost some weight. She wasn't a very good patient, she didn't like to be picked up and definately didn't like taking pills. Mom is rather passive about kitties, and didn't/wouldn't try to force her do take her meds. So when we went over on Wednesday for dinner, poor Foxy looked bad. She was so skinny and wouldn't move from under the couch. Mom said she wasn't eating and hadn't really been taking her pills. When I stopped by on Friday, Mom asked me to go with her to the vet. I knew it was time, and so did my parents, but neither could deal with it. So Mom and I went off to the vet and decided to put Foxy down. How sad. She only weighed 5 lbs, down from 10. Poor kitty, just a bag of bones. She was about 14, so it was just Age. Daddy was crying when I got home, she was definately his cat. My dad is definately one to wallow in self-pity, so he started saying that we should do to him what we did to the cat. Not being one to mince words, I told him that we'd definately thought about it, and if he didn't straighten up and become a better patient, we would. One can never accuse me of nurturing!

Therefore, Consequences
So all of this, the tire, the kitty happened within 2 days. When I got home last night, I was hot and tired, my back hurt and I had to do laundry. When I went to the interview this morning, I was met with 'Didn't we schedule this for tomorrow?' Damn. I told them I was just so excited about working there, I couldn't wait. At least now I stand out from other candidates.

Funny Email
Got this from my friend Terry:

On July 8, 1947 witnesses claimed that an unidentified object, with five aliens aboard, landed on a sheep and cattle ranch just outside Roswell , New Mexico . This is a well-known incident that many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force and the federal government.

However, what you may NOT know, is that in the month of March 1948, exactly nine months after that historic day, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfield , Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh , Condolezza Rice, and Dan Quyale were all born.

See what happens when aliens breed with sheep. This piece of information may clear up a lot of things.

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
