Stuff
I read this article in the paper, but haven't heard anymore about it. All you cat people need to know this. I've had 2 kitties affected by hyperthyroid issues, and the Parental Units had a kitty with this problem. It's controllable, but it makes owning a kitty a little less low-maintenance.
I've read some headlines about how Karl Rove is against Hillary Clinton. What Republican isn't against Hillary? And who listens to Karl Rove anyway? Some things I just don't find newsworthy.
My friend, Lisa has relatives in Montego Bay and they made it thru Hurrican Dean well, they still have phone service. Not being a Geography Person, I learned that Montego Bay is on the northern coast of Jamaica, whereas Kingston is on the southern, which was closer to the path Dean took.
I can't go shopping at the Publix that I used to work at, it takes me 2 hours, just chatting with all the people I worked with. Looks like I missed another opportunity, damn. The position I had, meals clerk, has taken on a new interest from corporate. They now have 2 people doing that job. Gee, I could have been a supervisor, making a few more pennies than I did before. No, instead I get a completely unrelated job, making 3 times as much. Silly me.
I was watching mountain biking on TV Saturday. (In between 'Ice Road Truckers' and 'Dirty Jobs') I was amazed at the marketing ploy used by the ski resorts. What a stroke of genius. In the last few years, I have been able to visit Ski resorts in the Summer. Not a lot of tourists, the lodges are hurting for money, if they even stay open. Some run the ski lifts, but mostly there's hiking on the slopes. Now they've taken some slopes, made them mountain biking trails and tada! A new tourist industry. Just a few years ago, mountain biking wasn't that popular, and I only saw hang gliding and hiking at the resorts we went to (Taos, NM and Jackson Hole, WY). So just goes to show, you build it and they will come.
Something to think about, Didi. Making New Castle a destination shouldn't be too hard, it's beautiful country with nearby hiking trails. Not much commercial you can do in the Jefferson National Forest, but that alone should bring in lots of people.
This is the Last Time, I Promise.
Michael Vick stands to be the Poster Child of Wrong Decisions. In some ways, I feel for the guy. He had the world in his hands, a fabulous salary doing what he loved to do, all the fame and talent (yes, he was good), some even said he was the 'spokesman' for the Falcons. To throw all that away on something as cruel and dispicable as dog-fighting is beyond words. His career is over.
Martin Luther King, in his 'I Have a Dream Speech' , longed for the day where people would be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. This case isn't about color, Michael Vick could have been purple, he broke the law. It's that simple. Dog-fighting is illegal and he broke the law. The problem is now that many people will say that Vick is like all the 'others'. Now that is a racist statement. Other what? Athletes? I know of many pro athletes that don't break the law. People from Virginia? I'm one and don't break any laws. So I guess you mean Black Men. But that's an incorrect statement, also. There are lots of black Men who don't break the law. And there are many black athletes that don't break the law. Look at Dkimbe Mutumbo, he's building hospitals in Africa with HIS OWN MONEY!!!
Currently in Atlanta there is a former senator under investigation for illegally dumping asbestos. Guess what, he's white. So I guess he's like all the 'others'. All White Politicians are crooks... er, maybe that's not such a good analogy.. How about: All Democrats are morally deficient. Or All Republicans lie, er, best stay away from politics..
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that let's not make this Michael Vick a racial thing. He broke the law and he's going to jail. He may be a Thug, but someone dropped the ball somewhere in his life: parents, church, school. He grew up in a bad neighborhood, but football got him into good schools. Why didn't they help him? All they taught him was 'You're an athlete, you're beyond laws and rules. You can do anything you want, and we'll look the other way'. I blame, in a large part, the University. I've said this before, colleges and universities coddle their atletes of any color and that HAS to change.
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'

Don't blame Virginia Tech. They took a poor black child and got him a 40 million dollar job in 2 years!! Coach Beamer did what he could in the short amount of time he had, but ultimately it is the parents that have the responsibility to raise a good citizen. Would you blame VA Tech if say, Bernie Ebbers was a graduate?
I had a good discussion the other night, with a gentleman that is black. He went on that assumption that Vick was raised in a poor environment, and yes, being a star on the football field assured him of being able to do whatever he wanted.
As I said to him, there are a lot of people that grow up in the projects that bring themselves up in order to get out, and they do it the right way.
He may have had bad influences in his life, but I have to disagree on one thing. Whenever someone commits such brutality to animals, there is something seriously flawed in their character. This is nothing but brute sadism. You cannot rehabilitate this trait. It is there, period. There isn't one thing I feel sorry for him about, and the blame doesn't go anywhere but on him in this particular situation.
This does go beyond race, but it also goes beyone him being a celebrated sports figure. He chose to do what he did because that's who he really is.

Ok, I have to agree a little with Red Lady. It is not the college that is responsible for the lack of morals of their students. I do agree that the colleges help push the students down that slippery slope if they are lacking in morals to begin with and they do nothing more than prepetuate the bad behavior. That being said, if the morals are not there in the first place, then they can not force them. It is the parents place not the education system. I saw the same thing in the military. They can make you behave while on base, but once they let you off, it your responsibility to keep yourself out of trouble.
Ok, off my soap box.
Put Vick in a pit with those pit bulls and see how he likes it.
Kisses,
Baby Neice
