Yes, It's Early

Hope everyone had a good Holiday. It was a nice weekend to be out and about.

I actually managed to get out of bed before 9am. I hope I can keep this up! My house is also still clean. OK, a little less clean than last Sunday, but there are no newspapers piled up on the floor. What's happening to me!!!???

Random Thoughts

I've had my kitty, Miss Katrina for a year now. How many smiles, laughs, scoldings, messes I've had to clean up in the last year! (more later...)

Freddie Mercury would have be 60 years-old today.

Finally, a Biological Clock for men! Something isn't the woman's fault!

Another reason Hashers should stick together. Talk about Extreme Shiggy!

Tragic thing about Steve Irwin . I've seen parts of his show, his Aussie accent annoyed me. At least he died doing what he loved. How many of you reading this are doing what you love? Condolences to his wife and children, but they can be comforted in the knowledge that 1) he didn't suffer and 2) he was doing what made him happy.

Exercise
It's amazing what a good workout will do for your outlook on life. I was doing well, getting to they gym at least 3 times a week, but last week I slacked off. So yesterday, I made sure I had a good workout. 30 minutes on the treadmill and arms/abs/legs in weight training. I feel great today, probably won't be able to walk tomorrow!

Movie Review
3 completely different movies this weekend. The first 'Blow Dry' with Alan Rickman and Natasha Richardson. Cute movie, interesting premise, 'They all live happily ever after'-ending. The British Hairdressers competition comes to town, it's the story of how it brings a family back together. It keeps your interest, and you do care for the characters. Natasha Richardson is very good.

A Study in Mockumentaries
'Farenheit 9/11'. Michael Moore made a movie about September 11 and some of his conclusions as to what led up to it. Are some things facts? Yes, some things are documented facts. But take enough things out of context and Mother Theresa could be labeled the Anti-Christ. I agree with the general premise of the movie, that there's a lot to this 'war' than we know and I don't doubt there are some Texas Republicans that are getting filthy rich from this.

'CSA: Confederate States of America'. This was a movie about what could have happened if the Rebels had won the War of Northern Aggression. It was presented as a TV-show produced by the BBA, British Broadcasting Association, complete with advertisements (Darkie toothpaste, Sambo cleaner, both real products, produced into the mid-20th century) Very thought provoking. Being a southern girl, I want to defend my relatives, (My Great-grandfather was an officer in the Army of Northern Virginia) but I don't want to believe that the South stood for slavery and only slavery. According to this mocumentary, the CSA went on to invade and enslave South America and the Caribbean Islands (a plan that was a fact), had a war with Canada (?) and, in the modern world had only one ally, South Africa. Lots of events were avoided, like Lincoln being assasinated and WWII. The premise of this movie was if the CSA had won, slavery would still be a practice, and we'd want to spread the philosophy. Now, I'm not a Civil War buff, nor am I a historical economist, but slavery would have bankrupted the south and would have died out anyway. (<= Trying to defend the south) For all you Yankee's who are puffing yourselves up about being 'better' than the south, I don't recall ever hearing about any laws or opportunities opening up in the North for Freed Slaves. They had slaves up North, too. If the geography had been similar, there would have been plantations and slaves up north, too.

So what does all this banter prove? I'm not offended by a man that bashes the current president of the USA, but I am offended by a hypothetical twist on history. Guess which side of the fence I sit on??

And Another Thing
At some point, I happened onto a TV show about Skinheads and Neo-Nazi groups. They taped a Klan meeting and demonstration in Conyers, Ga, and a recruiting effort in Birmingham, AL. Why does everyone make the south look so stupid??? There are Klan meetings and Neo-Nazi groups ABOVE the Mason-Dixon line, too! And we tolerate them because we have to, not because we want to. Are we really still that racist?

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
