Beaver Camp

After spending a week with the family, I planned to go camping with some girlfriends. Talk about culture shock, after spending time with 2 80-somethings and their 'exciting' life, I go off with 14 women on a camp trip.

Big Sister's House
Because things didn't work out and I had to leave Virginia on Friday, I decided to drive to Richmond and visit with my older sister and her husband and leave from there the next day. My sister is a school teacher and it was graduation night, so she couldn't hangout too much. I made it in time to grab her a bite of dinner and I went to her house. Her husband came home, and we started: he opened the bottle of wine and put on a DVD. We were up till about midnight drinking and watching a show. He had gotten the entire season of the HBO show 'Carnivale' and we watched the first 2 episodes. What a great show! Just something else for me to obsess over!

Rushing Home
So I left Richmond at 7:30am to drive to South Boston, Va to pick up my travelling buddy. Which in itself was a goof. I told her I could take her home and pick her up as it was on my way to Virginia. I went to college with a guy from South Boston and I had a general idea where it was. When I dropped her off in Durham on the way home, I realized driving up I85 that I was thinking of South Hill, not South Boston! My mom was concerned as it was so far out of the way, but I had promised to pick her up on the way home, so I had to. It wasn't out of the way, it was off the interstate. It was a beautiful drive, southwest out of Richmond. I've not really spent much time in that part of the state (south-central), so it was an enjoyable drive. I picked her up at her home (just down the street from Love Shop Drive. Hhuummm.) and we were off. I got home with enough time to unload my car, pack some clothes, grab my camping gear and go to Lynn's house.

Beaver Camp
Lynn and I showed up at Camp (Sloppy Floyd State Park) in the dark and just before the park closed. We set the tent up and gathered with the rest of the campers and just relaxed. I should have been exhausted as I didn't sleep too well Wednesday night, I was up late Thursday night and I had just driven 8 hours, but we stayed up till 1am.

The X-Rated Version or What the Guys Want to Read
So the next morning, we all got up, and went to take a shower. (All of us together). We put on our skimpy t-shirts and low-cut cami's and went back to the camp site for an afternoon of painting each other's toe's and pillow fights. It got a bit warm, so some of us decided to take off our clothes. We then took a nap as it was very hot. Around dinner time, we all went back to take another shower, and sat around the campfire drinking and giggling and doing what drunk girls do. What fun! I made some really good friends this weekend, and we'll all be borrowing each other's clothes from now on.

What Really Happened
Some of us got up to take a run, some didn't. I don't remember when the champagne got opened (for the mimosas) but we had a lovely breakfast about 11:30-ish. Then we decided to go for a hike. By this time, it was getting very hot. The hike was about 2 miles or less, but it seemed like it was a Death March. We got back to the camp to take a nap, but quickly found out it was too hot to sleep, so we sat around in the shade trying to keep cool. We had to keep moving the chairs as the sun kept moving (darn sun!) and we also learned that it CAN be too hot to drink. We went through a LOT of ice and water that afternoon. Thank God Michelle brought her box fan! I observed that as the temperature rose, the conversation stopped. Even with 14 women, it was pretty quiet. But as the sun went down it got more comfortable and after a dinner of shish-kabobs we settled down into some more drinking. It was a relatively early bedtime for me as the hike and the heat nearly killed me. Another lovely breakfast and we broke camp. I had a great time, and thanks to everyone who helped out, I did nothing as I was out of town and pretty much incommunicado. I think next year we'll be doing this earlier in the year!

Job Hunt
I actually have an interview tomorrow! The job is in Doraville, very close to my house. My problem now is creating an interview suit. I have worked in a warehouse atmosphere for almost the last 10 years so my business casual wardrobe is pretty flexible, but very casual. I've also gained some weight since the business suit days (almost a life time ago) and haven't worn a skirt in years. I did manage to pull together a nice 'outfit' for the interview for my last job, but that too, was at a warehouse. I have a day to find something. I also have homework to do.

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
