What's this bright orb in the sky???

Haven't seen the sun in a few days. It was nice and sunny yesterday, but much colder than I'd anticipated. I went for a lovely walk/run in the morning with a group of friends and had a lovely breakfast. (Thanks, Martha!)

Bimboing in the Rain
Saturday I bimboed the Atlanta Hash. It was miserable weather, rainy, just cold enough to be uncomfortable. I was 'stationed' at the end of the tunnel so I could collect flashlights so the runners didn't have to run with them. The first 3 came thru the tunnel, gave me a flashlight and were off. The last 3 came thru the tunnel and hitched a ride to the end with me. It was a fun hash. Circle was very short as the DFL wasn't even in yet. Then everyone went out and jumped in the hot tub. I was just a voyeur as I had things to do, but I sat around and talked for awhile. It was a fun day. Sometimes the smaller hashers are much more fun. Thanks to the Hare, Hung Jury for opening his home up for the end.

Geriatric Ward
Yesterday after the walk, I came home to fix up a room for the older cats. They are both on medication and I'm tired of tracking them down to give them their pills and I'm tired of making sure they get all the food they need. (April was a healthy 14lbs till the tyroid started acting up, she's now down to 7.5lbs, almost 1/2 her body weight.) I put them in there this morning and left some food and water, but April didn't want to stay and ran out the first chance she got. I left Misty in there with the door ajar so she could get out, but I know Miss Katrina will get in there and eat all the food. How do you put a cat on a diet??!!

Fear and Sex in South Dakota
SD just passed a bill to make all abortions illegal, setting the stage for the Supreme Court challenge to the Roe v. Wade. This is upsetting me, on 2 levels. First of all, abortion has been a legal solution to an unwanted pregnancy for over 30 years, but has ALWAYS been a solution. Laws on the books won't stop it from happening. Let's keep it safer by keeping it legal. Secondly, can't we find many more important things to spend this money on, other than legal challenges to an existing law? Let's put this money towards more education and support services for unwed mothers. One issue that's always bothered me is these anti-abortion (usually conservative Republican) folks keep screaming about making abortion illegal, but what are they doing for the abused and unwanted children that are born? The Republicans are also screaming about cutting welfare and social services. So what are we supposed to do with the children? Pretend they don't exist? Jerry Falwell, with all his conservative, 'Moral Majority' rehetoric, at least started a church sponsered home for pregnant teens and pushed for christians to adopt the children these kids gave birth to.

And Another Thing
The despensing of the 'Morning After Pill' is under fire also. Some want the pill to be available without perscription, some want the pharmacist to be trained to despense this drug, and still others don't want it available at all. Why must it be so difficult for women to control their own bodies/lives? Not all women having sex are teenagers and not all women having sex are irresponsible sluts. Mistakes happen, and we have the medical knowledge to prevent these mistakes.

Boolean Logic
I am a programmer, so everything gets down to bits and bites, right? So let's think this out:
If you are anti-abortion on grounds it kills people, then you should also be against the Death Penalty, pro gun control (guns kill people), and against medically assisted suicide. However, if you are against abortion on the grounds that it is 'playing God' by taking a human life, then you should also be against premature baby care, and any type of life sustaining issues (artifical breathing, kidney dialysis, organ transplants, and of course, stem cell research).
On the other hand, if you are Pro-Choice, then you should also be for the Death Penalty, against gun control (let them kill people) and members of the Hemlock society. Thank God life isn't black and white.

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
