Another Friday

I attended a great dinner party last night. Good friends, Good conversation and, of course, good Wine. I'll be out looking for chicken wire to decorate my living room!

Trip down memory lane
Queen with Paul Rodgers is coming to the ATL in a few weeks and I think I'd like to go. I never saw Queen, when they played in DC it was on a school night and my mom wouldn't let me go. (They were at the Kennedy Center on a bill with Kansas and Mahogany Rush. Huummmm...) I know it's not the same, Paul Rodgers could never be Freddie Mercury, but Paul Rodgers is a great singer (I was a big Bad Company fan also!), and I think Brian May in one of the best guitarists around. Also coming to Atlanta is another of my favorites, Al Stewart . You may remember him for his monster hit 'Year of the Cat' in the mid-70's. I have always thought that album is one of the best ever recorded. All the songs are great, and the production is great. ( I wish I had a nickle for every album Alan Parsons has produced.) I saw Al Stewart about 10 years ago at a very small venue in Ft Lauderdale. I was amazed. They guy is an amazing guitarist and he's got a great sense of humor. He's also a wine collector, so of course, that raises his popularity factor to me..

I love going to live shows, and now that smoking is prohibited, it's even better. I've given up the big arena shows, it's an age thing. I don't want to be in such a confined space with a bunch of drunks. And the sound isn't good, just loud. I like the smaller venues, one of my favorite in town being The Variety Playhouse. Last Friday, Marty Stuart played there and Ray Davies of the Kinks is coming in March. I seem to be in a time warp of the late 70's / early 80's Rock'n'Roll, I enjoy seeing all the big 'stars' from my childhood in a much smaller setting and for a LOT less money.

What am I thinking?
I plan on doing a 9 mile slow paced hike tomorrow. It's supposed to be cold and rainy, but what the hell.... I need the exercise.

More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.'
