Late To Work
Because of the low temperature this morning, I wasn't in too much of a hurry to get to work. The TV reporters said to stay off the road if necessary, so I did. I live on a dead end street with a hill and when it ices, I can't go anywhere until the ice melts. That wasn't the issue this morning, it was a fairly uneventful trip, but I'm not taking any chances. I don't do anything that is so important I have to risk my life.
Party Season
Lots of parties going on this weekend. I'm going out tonite to the theater, then to a party. A friend and I are going to explore Atlantic Station on Saturday and maybe hook up with some other friends in East Atlanta, then I have another party tomorrow night. Sunday I've committed to a cookie exchange and run (or, in my case, walk) in the morning, and dinner at another friends' house. Somehow, I have to bake 3 dozen cookies before Sunday am.
Speaking of Parties
One must be aware of the DUI thing, especially this time of year. I can't argue with success, but I think MADD is after the wrong people. Their goal shouldn't be to make this an alcohol-free society, it should be to punish the repeat offenders. I don't think a person becomes impaired at .08 BAL. This law is somewhat forcing me to become a recluse; as a single person, I don't usually have a designated driver. Based on the .08 BAL, I would go out for a drink, and have to take a cab home. I am not the problem! It's the drunks with several DUI's, driving with no drivers license who are the problem. MADD should focus their efforts on more serious penalties for repeat offenders, not lowering the BAL
I haven't experienced the heartbreak of the loss of a loved one due to a drunk driver and I'm sure my attitude would change if it happened. The 30-somethings today are more aware of DUI's than I was because it wasn't a big issue when I was in college, they didn't have the laws on the books and I went to a small college where you didn't need a car. I worry about my parents because their social outlet is the Elks Club. They go for Happy Hour several days of the week. I don't think they are as aware of the laws as we are, but they feel that as 80-somethings they wouldn't be prosecuted very tough. Mom doesn't drive and hasn't for years, but Dad is still behind the wheel. That's another rant for another day....
More to come...
As things happen, I'll be posting. Thanks for taking the time to read. You're opinions are welcome but if you have to start calling me names, don't bother, I won't read them. As my Dad says 'Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.' I have a few friends that are English majors and if you care to comment on the grammar, spelling or anything else constructive, please have at it! <== I ended that sentence with a preposition, didn't I? Bad Me!

I love your site, especially your concurrent loves of prog rock & Out Of Africa.
Although I wish I knew what 'a**holes' meant ... I suspect it's one of those words mommy whispers to daddy when he comes home from work late and smells funny.
Kat directed me over...enjoy your opinions, and welcome to the blogsphere!
What's worse is that the CDC currently defines "heavy drinking" as more than two drinks a day for men and...get this...more than ONE drink a day for a woman. Guess I better stop taking communion every day!
